Male vegetarians have lower levels of plasma Testosterone compared to their meat eating counterparts.
In a recent study, 45 men were randomly assigned to either a high fat-low fiber or a low fat-high fiber diet. The subjects followed each diet for 10 weeks.
The high fat-low fiber diet yielded 13% higher levels of total serum Testosterone compared to the low fat-high fiber diet.
In another study done in the early 80's, 30 healthy men were placed on a diet for 6 weeks where 40% of their calories came from fat.
This was followed by another 6-week period in which only 25% of their calories came from fat.
At the end of the trial the low fat diet resulted in significantly lower serum total and free Testosterone levels compared to the high fat diet.
The low carb craze that kicked in in the late 90's led to a flood of clinical trials on dietary fat consumption.
Time and time again, these trials have confirmed that replacing refined carbs with dietary fat will lower your blood sugar, increase beneficial HDL cholesterol, reduce LDL cholesterol, and reduce fasting insulin and triglyceride levels.
Most of the fat consumed in this country is eaten as two all beef patties served on a sesame seed bun, with a supersized drink, and an order of fries.
