Saliva Hormone Testing v.s Serum Blood Tests!Hi Mark,Thank you for this site.
Men like you are DEFINITELY needed these days!!
I see on your site that normal ranges for FREE
testosterone are 6.8 - 21.5 pg/ml.
I understand that this is according to Lapcorp and the normal range that testing facilities give us are usually on the low side, but shouldn't the normal ranges be pretty universal??
The reason I ask is because I got back my test results from a different company and they are showing normal ranges for FREE testosterone in the 44-148 pg/ml range!!
This obviously is a HUGE difference from Labcorp and I'm not sure which one to go by.
I'm 29 and feel as if I don't have normal testosterone ranges, no morning wood,
low sex drive, low energy, low motivation, etc...
This was a saliva test done first thing in the morning except night cortisol.
What is your take on these results:
- Estradiol-.9 pg/ml (normal range .5-2.2)
- Progesterone-39 pg/ml (normal range 12-100)
- Testosterone-81 pg/ml (normal ranges 44-148)
- DHEAS-9.2 (normal ranges 2-23)
- Cortisol Morning-8.9 (normal ranges 3.7-9.5)
- Cortisol Night-.2 (normal ranges .4-1.0)
Saliva Hormone Testing v.s Serum Blood Tests
Hi Steve,
I don't put much stock in those numbers, because I don't believe saliva tests are very accurate.
If you're dehydrated, over-hydrated, using antihistamines, or prescription meds, your numbers will be highly inaccurate.
Also...According to the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology...
The problem with salivary testing and monitoring of free hormone levels is twofold:
First, there is no biologically meaningful relationship between salivary sex steroidal hormone concentrations and free serum hormone concentrations.
Second, there is large within-patient variability in salivary hormone concentrations. Here's the bottom line...The gold standard for hormone testing is still Serum (blood).
If you really want an accurate snapshot of your hormone levels, head to your doctors office, and have him draw your blood.

But if I were you I'd hold off on that, because you already know things aren't right in your hormonal world!
The loss of morning
erections, low sex drive, and lack of motivation are solid proof of that.
My recommendation to you is, forget the blood tests for now, and attack your situation for 90 days.
Bring your testicles back to life, and optimize your hormone levels naturally.
At your age, 90 days of solid effort will pay off in spades!
After this period, I guarantee you, blood tests will be the furthest thing from your mind.
Why?Because men who come here with bottomed out hormones always seem to be hormone testing Obsessed!
But, once the sex drive, muscle mass, energy, and zest for life return, that obsession disappears real fast.
Yup, once you get things right, you'll know it for a fact.
At this point living life takes priority over sterile white rooms, hypodermic needles, and
numbers on a lab report.
Sound good?
