Intermittent Fasting & the Paleo Diet!

by Hector

Intermittent Fasting & the Paleo Diet!

Hi Mark,

I have been living on the paleo diet and it is wonderful. I've got energy and stamina to fulfill my work and exercises like high intensity interval training.

I have been reading about intermittent fasting and its health benefits and I want to ask you if it is recommended to do this?

And does it produces muscle loss like all nutritionist say?

Intermittent Fasting & the Paleo Diet

Hello Hector,

Anytime you put stress on the body, you run the risk of increasing the catabolic, muscle wasting hormone, cortisol.

Other stress hormones like epinephrine and norepinephrine can spike as well.

Since intermittent fasting puts stress on the body, many who try it wind up getting punished with chronically elevated cortisol levels.

I fall into that camp myself...

I tested the one meal a day trick for almost 2 months, and experienced muscle loss, glucose intolerance, irritability, and elevated blood pressure.

That being said...

There are several men in my personal health network who thrive on the one meal a day program.

So in answer to your question, it depends...

My suggestion to you is, try it for a few weeks and monitor your progress.

If you experience muscle loss, blood sugar problems, belly fat storage, anxiety, irritability, fatigue, memory loss, or alcohol craving, check out and move onto another plan.

On the other hand, if you dump some excess weight, have high levels energy, and feel great...all while maintaining supreme levels of sex drive, which is clear evidence that testosterone levels have not taken a hit...then go for it!

Why?

Because you'll be eating as humans have for multiple thousands of years

Remember...

Prior to the industrial revolution, 3 square meals, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, over an entire lifetime, was not part of the agenda.

In the past, we humans had to work for our food...and at times, when luck was not on our side, we simply went without.

Intermittent Fasting & the Paleo Diet

I assume my body didn't adapt to this eating plan, because of the 40 years of abuse I put it through before I went paleo.

If I could go back, and start my life all over again, I'm sure I could make it work...

As for you?

The only way to know for sure is to try it out for yourself.

Good luck
